Our Story

Welcome to Chabad of New Mexico, your home away from home in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Established with the blessing of the Lubavitcher Rebbe in 1992, and is directed by Rabbi Chaim Schmukler and his wife Devorah Leah. Rabbi Chaim and Devorah Leah have been serving the Albuquerque community with love, dedication, and timeless Jewish wisdom.

Founder and Executive Director

Rabbi Chaim Schmukler has been serving the New Mexico community for over 30 years. A passionate educator and mentor, he is devoted to caring for Jewish identity, knowledge, and traditions in an inclusive and welcoming environment.

Wife's Name

Mrs. Devorah Leah Schmukler

Co-founder and Program Director

Devorah Leah is the pillar of our community events, Women's groups and programs. She is the person that keeps the community together.

Our Mission

At Chabad of New Mexico, our mission is to create a vibrant Jewish community where everyone, regardless of background or level of observance, feels welcome, valued, and inspired. We aim to provide authentic Jewish experiences, education, and resources to enrich the lives of all who walk through our doors.

Chabad of New Mexico has helped foster Jewish awareness, education, assistance and service throughout the State of New Mexico. Since its establishment, Chabad of New Mexico has had the privilege of touching the lives of thousands of people throughout the State with the help of its wide array of educational and social programs.

Chabad of New Mexico has provided and continues to provide support to thousands
of people who rely on Chabad as their lifeline, stepping in where others may
shy away. From children and youth programs to classes and programs for adults, from kosher
meals-on-wheels to burial assistance, Chabad is always there for every individual.  

Chabad’s four centers throughout New Mexico and their staff are working day and
night to make our world a brighter place.
